Archipelago of lost souls
A documentary by Nico Peltier & Pablo Salaün

Synopsis

Above the polar circle in Russia lies Vorkuta, a mining town and former forced labor camp from the Gulag. A crossroads of native nomads, immigrant workers and the descendants of exiled political prisoners, in 2013 the town officially celebrates its 70th anniversary. With the golden era of soviet mining being over, coal companies are losing profits and mining accidents are on the rise. Lost in the middle of the tundra, this urban island built upon the bones of citizens of the world is now disappearing.
